“A Cup of Cardi, A Sip of Saweetie: Black Owned Coffee Shops”

I’ve worked with The Los Angeles Times, recently in their Food section.

For Black History Month, there was a feature focusing on Black owned coffee shops in LA and the inspirations behind the drinks. The flavor notes of the drinks are featured as patterns in the background (ex. Undergrind Cafe’s “Purple Rain” is a lavender latte, so lavender is featured) and steam surrounds the subject/inspo of the drink (it’s pretty clear who the aforementioned “Purple Rain” latte is inspired by!)

Headers and spots for The Counter, an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom investigating the forces shaping how and what America eats.

These were created around a story regarding mentors and how industry training programs need to be crafted around the needs of their mentees.

Various headers and spots for Earth In Color, a Black-led creative studio telling stories, sharing recipes, and curating experiences to support our collective healing and that of the natural world.

These illustrations were made to visualize the interview EIC had with The Jones Farm, a family led farm that’d been in the family for generations!

Various social/editorial illustrations for articles for AARP’s Sisters Newsletter, a division of the company specifically for over 50 women of color.

These illustrations were made to visualize a think piece speaking on the importance of “the cookout” in the Black community and its connection to the community and the outdoors.
